Great news. Our Women’s Empowerment, Training and Business Development Project that is being implemented in Handikhola, Makwanpur District is almost complete.
The objectives of the project are:
- to facilitate the social and economic empowerment of women from disadvantaged backgrounds;
- to develop and implement a range of training programs from women;
- to develop women’s micro-finance projects; and
- to increase women’s ability to meet the educational needs of their children.
To date, 54 women and 5 men have participated in the project training. The participants are from the Chepang and Bakariya ethnic minority groups.
Thirty women have engaged in training in sewing skills. This training course ran for 6 months and women gained valuable skills that enable them to set up a business. The 29 participants in computer skills training attended the course for 3.5 months and have gained essential computing techniques. Participants reported their self-concept was greatly improved by gaining these skills.
All 59 participants also attended training in business development to equip them with skills to set up a business, work part-time or gain employment.
Next up are micro-finance activities which will support women to manage a micro-finance loam, set up their business, and earn sufficient income to repay their loan so other women in their group can also take a loan.
